Dog Training
Why virtual dog training?

One thing I hear from clients is that their dog is better behaved or responds great when the trainer is there, but things fall apart after the trainer leaves.

Your dog lives with you, and unless you want a dog trainer to move in with you, you are going to have to work with the dog yourself!

Advantages to virtual over in-person training:

-
Because I’m not physically in your home, I won’t distract your dog. Your dog is more likely to pay attention to the most important person - you!
-
If your dog is nervous with strangers my absence removes that stress as well.
-
For dogs that get overly excited when people come over, the virtual training session will provide a calmer environment for your dog.
-
I get to see how your dog behaves in your home in normal circumstances, and can create a training plan that takes into account the everyday, ordinary routine and layout of your home.
-
Unlike group classes, you don't have to wait a week to get coached on your training. With video review you get same-day feedback!

Does virtual dog training work?

Pre-Covid I would have been skeptical that virtual training would be effective. But I’ve been amazed at the results from my clients and have seen more progress than if I was physically at the training session. I believe that because all training is done by the owner instead of by me, that the owner gets a real opportunity to learn training skills.

How does virtual dog training work?

At the initial consultation I talk to you to find out your goals and “meet” your dog. We get started with the first lesson and I coach you through the training steps and problem solve if needed. The initial consultation will last between 60-90 minutes.

All Zoom meetings are recorded and available for you to view afterwards, in case you want to go back and review the training session.

After the consultation I create a step-by-step training plan for you and your dog, and email it to you with links to any videos I feel would be helpful as examples.

During the week I encourage you to record your training sessions, and send me up to 40 minutes worth of videos per week through sharing on Google Drive.
I review the videos, offer feedback and recommendations, and send you additional training plans so that you can advance to the next level of training. The best part about this is that you don't have to wait for the next appointment if you run into problems or have questions!

What dog training methods do you use?

I am a force-free trainer who uses positive training methods. While food is a huge part of the training process, I also like to reinforce with anything motivating to the dog such as play, toys, and dog/owner interactions. Sometimes the motivator is unusual – I once trained a dog that loved feathers!

I will work with you to discover what your dog loves!
